Erica Harvey (She/Her)Operations Manager
Following the completion of her Baccalaureate in Marine and Freshwater Biology from the University of Guelph in 2015, Erica left her childhood home in Holland Landing, Ontario to pursue aquatic research in Saint Andrew’s, New Brunswick. While exercising the knowledge and skills obtained by her degree, a new passion was igniting. Leaving the confines of urban Ontario, Erica found herself falling in love with outdoor adventure activities such has backpacking, white water kayaking, and sea kayaking. Erica’s yearning for adventure led her to leave the laboratory for more time spent outside, which offered an entirely new setting to apply her knowledge of the natural world and to share it with others. Coming from Newfoundland roots, Erica returned to St. John’s in 2018 and has joined the AWE team with the goal to facilitate adventure for everyone that seeks it!
Quinn Durand (She/Her)Sea Kayak Guide
Originally from Ottawa, ON, Quinn credits her love of the outdoors to summers spent paddling the lakes of Ontario by canoe (and eating lots of s’mores from a young age). You can usually find Quinn on a trail or climbing some rocks, asking people to pet their dogs, and wearing the colour purple. After working 9 seasons in outdoor education and YMCA camping across Canada, and recently completing an Honours Degree in Therapeutic Recreation at MUN, her goal is to create inclusive outdoor recreation, specifically for womxn, and anyone interested in getting outside and having a laugh. After all, the outdoors should be for everyone!
Alex Thrower (He/Him)Sea Kayak Guide
Born and raised in Ontario, Alex is a multi-faceted guide with experience coast-to-coast. Alex moved to Newfoundland after finishing up University in British Columbia, focusing his studies there on Environmental Systems and Management. If not in a sea kayak this summer, you mind find him out on the trails, canoeing, swimming, fishing, backcountry camping, or dreaming about being out backcountry skiing. Alex is deeply passionate about sharing the feeling and experience he finds in the outdoors with everyone and supporting others in experiencing it for themselves.
David MacKay (He/Him)Sea Kayak Guide
David is a 20-year-old Aerospace engineer student at Carleton University. He loves everything water-related whether it be sea kayaking, white water kayaking, water polo or a dip in the pond. David’s dad introduced him to kayaking at a young age and he quickly surpassed him in skill and ability, although his dad may say differently. David has been serious about kayaking for 7 years and has paddled rivers and oceans a like across Newfoundland, Ontario, and British Columbia. He is passionate about the outdoors and spends as much of his free time outside as possible. Besides kayaking he enjoys spending his time mountain biking, hiking, or relaxing with family and friends at the cabin. He can’t wait to see you on the water!
